I previously wrote a blog discussing the Four Pillars necessary for businesses to succeed and grow. This blog focuses on one of those essential decisions – People Decisions. After all, organizations are built and run by people. Before worrying about having the best product or service, you need to make sure you have the right people for the job. When you have the right people in the right roles doing the right thing, execution is 80-90% solved.
When assessing your People, the best place to start is at the top - your executive-level team. We will work together to ensure that you have the right people in the right seats at the top of the company. We will also clarify who is accountable for what essential business processes and how that person will be held accountable for their performance.
Then, we will meet with the senior executives to get their take on accountability and essential business processes.
With this information, we will begin to understand why there may be a shortfall of attention to some areas of the business – and redirect accordingly.
Next, I ask these four questions:
Once those questions are answered, we will work together to assess how productive everyone is regularly (weekly, monthly, etc).
Finally, we review your most recent profit and loss sheet and balance sheet. Then, we assign a person accountable for each line item and discuss the same four questions again for each item.
This process is truly the best place to start. Because without the right people doing the right tasks, your organization will be trapped in a rut. To help you more clearly understand the People Decisions process, feel free to reach out to me.
