Let’s talk about setting goals.
I know, it’s the new year, we’ve all got our goals.
What if I could teach you a way to actually *achieve* your goals?
It’s really not that hard. Instead of simply stating your resolution or goal without a plan of action to actually achieve it, why don’t you take a look at your goal and set it with a timeline - 1 year, 3-5 years, 10 years.
Make it pretty big, hairy, and audacious. Why not make a BHAG?
Try and look at it as this is the goal you are trying to achieve, with the mindset that you need to do certain things to get to that goal in order to achieve it.
For instance, if I have a 10-year BHAG of making $50 million a year, I probably want to look at where I should be in 5 years and what should be going on, what things you have done and are doing to achieve that big goal in 10 years.
And maybe you should look back at your on year goal in order to get to your 5-year goal to get to your BHAG 10 year goal.
And your 90-day, and your weekly, and your daily goals.
The whole point is, you don’t eat an elephant easily - usually, it’s one bite at a time.
And just like a goal, you can actually achieve your goal if you set proper metrics and KPIs to measure how you’re doing on achieving your small milestones to get to your end result.
My good friend, Dan Sullivan, once told me: Don’t fall into the gap. Don’t forget to look behind you to see how far you’ve come and how many little tiny things you’ve achieved, in order to get to the bigger goal, because the big horizon is constantly moving, and it’s okay to adjust your goals.
So, let’s talk about your goals and how to achieve them!
